Scrap standard for wire rope slings

Wire rope slings should be stopped, repaired or scrapped when one of the following conditions occurs:

1. One strand of the wire rope is broken, or the surface steel wire is eroded by more than 40% of the diameter of the wire, or the diameter of the wire rope is reduced by more than 7%.

2. The wire rope is kinked and deformed.

3. The broken wire of the steel wire rope exceeds the standard within a lay length (Appendix 9): (1) When the broken wire occurs in a local area, and the broken wire occurs on one strand in a section with a length of 6 times the diameter, the specified broken wire is reached. Half of the number should be discarded. (2) When the wire rope is corroded or worn, the number of scrapped and broken wires should be multiplied by the reduction factor (Appendix 9).

4. The wire rope is partially damaged by broken wires (more than three broken wires are gathered together).

5. There are broken wires on the surface of the cable eye, or the broken wires are concentrated in the metal sleeve, near the plug connection, and in the plug connection strand.

6. The strength of the wire rope is reduced due to the melting of the wire rope caused by the live arc, the scalding of the molten metal, or the long-term exposure to the high temperature environment.

7. The plug joint is severely squeezed and worn; the metal sleeve is damaged (such as cracks, severe deformation, corrosion) or the diameter is reduced to 95% of the original diameter.

8. The metal sleeve or the plug connection part of the fixed connection at the rope end slides out.
